‘He is aggressive at set pieces and a real, complete midfielder since he played at Lyon and now at a club that wants to grow bigger and bigger.

‘I’m sure he will be part of the project for years to come. Certainly.’

Since signing for Newcastle, Guimaraes has been a central part of their team and has developed an incredible relationship with the fans.

He stood out in a disappointing season for the Magpies, contributing with three goals and seven assists in all competitions.

The Brazilian international has been linked with a summer move to the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, but he confirmed his intention to stay at Newcastle last month.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Guimaraes said: ‘Sometimes people talk a lot about me, all I think about is football.

‘Sometimes (people say I’m leaving Newcastle). I am very happy here, enjoy it very much. I’ve never felt so much love for the fans as I do here.
