British pensioner, 76, dies on Costa Blanca after falling during ‘domestic incident’ – while her daughter, 38, and husband, 73, are arrested for ‘failing to call the emergency services’

Two British nationals have been arrested in Spain following the death of a British pensioner in what is believed to have been a fatal fall.

The unnamed woman, 76, is said to have fallen a few days ago in a property in Rojales near Torrevieja, south of Alicante.

A 38-year-old woman, said to be the daughter of the septuagenarian, and a 73-year-old man, believed to be a friend, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

The pair are accused of failing to call emergency services after she was killed in a domestic accident on the Costa Blanca.

Police sources say she may have fallen three days before her death, but her companions did not seek help as they were heavily intoxicated and under the influence of alcohol.

Rojales is located in southwestern Spain, south of the British expat hotspot Alicante

However, the duo reportedly insisted that they raised the alarm early on Tuesday morning after realizing that she was dead.

Investigators are treating the death as manslaughter caused by negligence. Radio Alicante reports that the municipal police in Guardamar are leading the investigation.

It was not immediately clear whether the dead woman had also been drinking before she fell and died.

Civil Guard officials in Alicante are expected to make an official comment later this week once the two British suspects have appeared in court for a pre-trial detention hearing.

The man being held is believed to be a friend of the female OAP, but it is not known if he lived at the property.

The Foreign Office said: ‘We are in contact with local authorities following the death of a British woman in Spain.’
