You splashers: Thousands of pounds of wine pour out of a barrel after clumsy workers accidentally cause a major leak at an Argentinian factory

This is the unfortunate moment clumsy winemakers had to clean up a £7,000 river of wine last Friday after accidentally causing a leak in a tank.

Workers at the winery attempted to transfer red splash from one tank to another for bottling at the Los Haroldos winery in San Martín, near Mendoza, Argentina.

But when they loosened a screw on the bottom lid to let air in, a built-up pressure blew a hole.

The winery revealed that there was a shortage of 15,000 liters of wine due to the incident.

Fortunately, workers were eventually able to stop the leak and prevent another 35,000 gallons in the 50,000 gallon tank from escaping.

The company, which has been producing wine for decades, lost the equivalent of £7,400 worth of drinks due to the blunder.

Bosses said workers should have opened the top lid of the tank to transfer the wine.

The company will also have to pay the equivalent of £19,500 for a new tank to replace the broken one.

Gustavo Martínez of Los Haroldos winery told local media: ‘Unfortunately we have suffered the loss of the tank, which is no longer usable, along with 15,000 liters – a significant loss for our company.’
