Jason Kelce has already been back to the Philadelphia Eagles facility in the first week of his retirement and told his brother Travis that he is still waiting to hear the consequences of retiring from football.

Jason cried when he announced last week that he was retiring at age 36 after 13 seasons and a Super Bowl win with the Philadelphia Eagles. Travis was in the audience and also cried when he showed up as a show of support.

Speaking about his first week of a brand new chapter on their New Heights podcast, Jason admitted he didn’t really feel a sense of change.

“It feels a lot different. I actually still went to the facility to get in some weightlifting sessions,” Kelce said. ‘I’m a creature of habit, I don’t know.

‘I don’t feel any different. I assume that once organized team activities start, training camps and the season starts, things will really start to work out a bit more.

“But in a week’s time it won’t be much different, to be honest.”

NFL teams typically return in July to begin the serious build-up to a season, meaning older brother Kelce has plenty of time to process his decision before practice begins.

Kelce added that he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support he received.

“Dude, my phone had over a thousand text messages,” he said. “I think I was able to reach everyone, but it was so hard to get through.

“I hope if you contact me I’ll get back to you, I really appreciate it. It was all great fun.’

The 36-year-old is widely expected to make a transition into the world of sports analysis and has apparently held meetings with several broadcasters around the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, where he cheered Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs to victory.

And he’s also being filmed by Amazon Prime, the documentarians behind his own ‘Kelce’ documentary last year taking his next steps on film.

Directors Don Argott and Sheena Joyce have been filming him since 2021, when he first suggested he quit the game, and this week revealed they have kept the cameras rolling ever since.

“In a way, we’ve been making Jason Kelce’s retirement documentary the whole time. I don’t know where we’re all going to end up with this (imagery), but we are honored and feel truly privileged to be included in his life in this way,” Joyce told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

She continued, “When he called us… I could only congratulate him, because I know what a difficult decision it was to come, and how heartbreaking it is to put a period at the end of that sentence .’

Argott said filming the announcement was the culmination of a day full of emotions: “We were spoiled to have it for thirteen seasons. Jason has embodied – honestly, more than anyone – what this city is all about in terms of sports, your attitude towards sports and how you play the game.

‘He is the type of player (with) heart and soul, that person we have always been able to count on.’

The couple says that since they started following Kelce, they noticed that he seemed more and more willing to step away.

“Jason wants to make sure he can perform at his top level at all times, and he knows that if he can’t perform at that top level, it will eat him away,” Joyce said. ‘That is a very painful realization.’
