Tragedy as worker dies after he suffered critical head injuries when trapped in crushing machinery at a construction site

A worker has died after becoming trapped in cement crushing equipment at a Queensland construction site.

Emergency services were called to Knight St in Rockhampton just after 11.30am on Tuesday after reports that a 68-year-old man had been injured.

A technical rescue team and paramedics carefully freed the man before he was placed on a stretcher and rushed to Rockhampton Hospital about 12.30pm.

The worker died later on Tuesday afternoon from head injuries, the Rockhampton newspaper reported The Morning Bulletin.

The man worked on the Knight Pro Trade Center project, an 8.19 hectare site that used to house rail yards and is about to be transformed into an industrial estate.

It is understood he became trapped in heavy equipment being used to level the site.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is leading an investigation into the incident.

“Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is today (Tuesday) investigating an incident involving a worker at a construction site in Rockhampton,” a spokesperson said.

‘WHSQ inspectors were immediately deployed to the incident after being notified around lunchtime.’

The police will prepare a report for the coroner.
