Christian Brueckner’s adoptive mother reveals she has disowned Madeleine McCann’s prime suspect and ‘has nothing to do with him anymore’
Christian Brueckner’s adoptive mother has revealed she has disowned Madeleine McCann’s suspect and has ‘nothing to do with him anymore’.
Brigitte Brueckner and her late husband Fritz are said to have raised Christian as ‘one of their own’ after he was abandoned as a young boy.
But the widow says she has now cut ties with the 47-year-old, who is a convicted rapist and was named in 2020 as a prime suspect in Maddie’s 2007 disappearance.
The captured pedophile is currently on trial for three rapes and two sexual assaults, all allegedly committed on Portugal’s Algarve coast between 2000 and 2017.
“I have nothing to do with him anymore,” Ms. Brueckner said The sun. ‘As far as I’m concerned, I’ve said goodbye. On Wiedersehen.’

German police named him the alleged kidnapper of Madeleine McCann and ‘no body’ murderer
Mrs Brueckner insists she had nothing to do with her adopted son’s actions and has not seen him in years.
Brueckner was born in the Bavarian city of Würzburg in 1976 and was placed in a foster home after being abandoned by his biological mother.
Mrs. Brueckner and her husband took him and his brother into their family and reportedly raised him from an infant.
But the parents sent him to a reform home for teenagers after Mr. Brueckner was seriously injured in a car accident and the boy’s delinquent behavior worsened.
Christian was moved to the church-run home at the age of 15 and received his first conviction for sexually abusing a child two years later.
He spent two years behind bars in a juvenile detention center before training as a mechanic and moving to the Algarve after his release.
He spent more than twenty years traveling between Portugal and Germany, doing odd jobs and financing his peripatetic lifestyle through theft and other crimes.
When German police named him as Maddie’s alleged kidnapper and “no body” killer in June 2020, his adoptive mother said her life had been “destroyed all over again.”

“Brigitte is horrified, distraught… She is an old woman and confused,” a family friend told MailOnline at the time.
‘She says this isn’t her fault and she had nothing to do with it. She is now on her own after the death of her husband Fritz.
‘She has no contact with anyone, no family, and she hasn’t seen Christian or her other two boys in years.
‘She can’t bear to talk to anyone about all this. But she insists that it was not obvious that Christian would do such a thing.’
Christian has yet to be charged in the British girl’s disappearance but is currently on trial in a separate case relating to attacks that took place just minutes from where she went missing in the resort of Praia da Luz.
The victims include holiday representative Hazel Behan, another woman aged between 70 and 80, a girl aged around 14, a 10-year-old girl who was allegedly attacked on a beach near where Madeleine disappeared, and another child.

He is already serving a seven-year prison sentence for the rape of an elderly American woman in the Algarve in 2005 and was jailed in 2019 after evidence emerged from two former friends.
While appearing in court a number of times in Germany, a former worker from the children’s home reportedly said: ‘It’s terrifying to see what has become of him when you see the photos of him in court with those terrifying eyes.
“I’m sure everyone he knew would certainly be scared if they saw him today. We never want him back here again.’
