Gabriele Cairo: Why prosecutors have asked for the trial of an Italian travel-influencer to be delayed as he’s accused of causing horror crash that killed three people while honeymooning in Australia

An Italian travel blogger who allegedly caused the deaths of three members of the same family in a horror car crash last year will have to wait another month before facing his latest charge, with the case postponed as prosecutors report crucial reconstruction reports on the crash assessment.

Gabriele Cairo, 28, appeared at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Brian Nitschke for a hearing on the charges, but prosecutors asked for a five-week adjournment to review a technical reconstruction report and then determine how to prosecute him to go on.

Police have charged Cairo with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious harm by dangerous driving after he allegedly collided with a Honda Civic carrying John, Cynthia and daughter Jacquie Clarke at a rural intersection in the Mid North region of South Australia. on October 31, 2023.

Cynthia, 84, and Jacquie, 54, died at the scene of the Everard Central crash and husband and father John Clarke, 86, who was in the back of the Honda, suffered serious injuries.

Paramedics took him to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for further treatment, but he died from his injuries days later.

She appeared in court with her husband on Tuesday and cried softly as they left the court together.

An Italian interpreter called in via video link to translate the proceedings for Cairo.

The Italian tourists were on their honeymoon at the time of the crash.

The couple hosted a YouTube channel documenting their travels, including videos of the pyramids in Egypt and a visit to the palatial Venetian Resort in Las Vegas.

Mrs Clarke, a retired nurse, and her husband were both much-loved patrons of Snowtown Golf Club before the couple moved to Clare.

Jacquie lived in Jamestown, a 50-minute drive from Clare.

Cairo will appear in court again on April 30.
