Footy superstar Nick Daicos gives a HUGE hint about what he wants to do when he retires from footy

  • Nick Daicos, 21, is perhaps the code’s biggest star
  • Pies fans will be hoping he stays on for the next decade
  • AFL debut in 2022, key premiership player in 2023

Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos is only three years into his AFL career but has already given a big hint about his long-term plans, revealing he wants to coach at senior level.

The 21-year-old Daicos has taken the competition by storm after making his debut in the first round against St Kilda in 2022, quickly becoming one of the code’s leading players.

He won the Rising Star award in his first season and narrowly missed out on winning the Brownlow Medal last year due to injury.

Daicos returned in the final and was a key figure as the Magpies became premiership heroes.

On Monday in Melbourne, Daicos was unveiled as part of the team for Auskick, where he will help identify future stars of the game, including those who will present medals on grand final day at the MCG.

“I want to put a lot of energy into them and make sure that hopefully one day they can achieve their dreams … and do pretty much what I’m doing now,” Daicos said. 7NEWS.

‘It’s super important. I was fortunate to have great role models growing up… so I hope we can continue that, pass on great skills and knowledge to the kids coming through and make sure they’re prepared for their foot journey.”

He confirmed the appeal of following Craig McRae’s path once he hangs up his boots.

‘It is definitely a path I want to continue on in my career. I love the game so coaching is something I would like to do later,” said the stylish midfielder.

Daicos also believes his team can respond after being outclassed in GWS’s last start.

Sydney awaits at the MCG this Friday, and the Swans were impressive in their first win on home soil against Melbourne.

“Friday coming up is a great opportunity to start over at the MCG,” Daicos said.

“No matter what’s on the scoreboard, we want to play until the last second…we also learned a lot as a group from the Giants game.”
