Premier League title winning chances are revealed by Opta supercomputer after Liverpool’s Anfield draw against Man City – and what does it mean for Arsenal after last-gasp Brentford win?

  • The supercomputer Opta has recalculated the chances of the three competitors
  • Manchester City and Liverpool’s chances have changed after the weekend’s draw
  • Arsenal are making mugs of us, showing they don’t need a number 9 and Kai Havertz has become Mikel Arteta’s go-to guy – It’s all Kicking Off podcast

Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool have all been given new calculated chances to win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners left it late on Saturday when Kai Havertz scored at the death to complete a 2-1 win against Brentford and take Mikel Arteta’s side to the top of the English top flight.

They retained their place at the top after Liverpool and Man City both missed the chance to leapfrog them in a titanic battle at Anfield on Sunday as they played out a thrilling 1-1 draw.

Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge remained in tatters during the run-in to last season and they now look a largely more complete unit under Arteta as they look to go step-by-step with City and Liverpool.

Their superior goal differential of +46 leaves them narrowly ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are equal on 64 points, while reigning champions Man City are just one point behind in the standings.

They adjust their figures after the last round of the Premier League, football data analysts Opta have recalculated the chances of Arsenal, City and Liverpool winning the league.

City were huge favorites ahead of the draw at Anfield, with the supercomputer initially giving Guardiola’s side a 51.4 percent chance of winning the title.

Their hopes have now fallen to 45.9 per cent – a change from 5.5 per cent – as Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty saw the points shared in the top-flight match.

Liverpool’s title-winning ambitions have received just a minuscule -0.3 percent change as predictions show the Reds have a 35.3 percent chance of winning a second Premier League title.

Arsenal have the most to celebrate after the weekend but still remain the outsider of the trio, with statisticians now giving them an 18.8 per cent chance of getting their hands on England’s most prestigious silverware.

Despite scoring 17 goals in their last three league games, Saturday’s win over Ivan Toney’s Brentford only increased their chances by 5.5 percent.

One of the reasons for Arsenal’s low comparison with their Premier League rivals could be that, on paper, they have had the most difficult run-up to the end of the season.

The Gunners still have to travel to City, Manchester United and Tottenham, while they also have to host Chelsea.

Liverpool will also face United and Spurs in the build-up, while City’s final games look more favourable, but they still have to play Tottenham and Aston Villa host Arsenal at the end of the month.
