Kinchant Dam, Mackay: Hunt for missing North Eton father ends in tragedy after underwater sonar leads divers to grim discovery

The hunt for a missing man after a boating accident at a Queensland dam has ended in tragedy after divers pulled a body from the water on Monday morning.

The 40-year-old father from North Eton went missing after he and his daughter, 9, fell from a broken boat at Kinchant Dam, 35km west of Mackay, on Sunday.

The girl was later recovered safely from the water, but her father could not be found.

Water police and specialized divers were assigned to search for her father.

Inspector Glen Cameron, one of the officers in charge of the search efforts, confirmed the man’s body had been found.

A family of six, including four children, were on board the boat. The mother and three other children all reached shore safely.

“It is clear that the family are very upset about what has happened and we can only imagine the trauma they are going through,” Senior Sergeant Trevor Robson said.

“You wouldn’t wish that on your worst enemy.”

The dam, a popular spot for recreational activities such as boating, water sports and fishing, is closed.
