Following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with title rivals Manchester City, Virgil Van Dijk and Jarell Quansah spoke about the result in a post-match interview.
After John Stones opened the score early through an inventive corner kick technique by Kevin De Bruyne, the home team found a way back into the match through a penalty from Alexis Mac Allister.
Anfield leveled the score and got a second wind, with Liverpool dominating the second half.
After the match, Van Dijk said: ‘Based on the second half we should have won, but of course they also had a shot on the post. With their quality you can’t deny that they could have won it. It was so close, but it’s a little bittersweet right now.
When asked about Liverpool’s young star Jarell Quansah, Van Dijk revealed: ‘He’s been important. He took on every challenge that came his way. He was excellent again. The sky is the limit. He just has to stay humble and keep working hard and keep improving.

Quansah revealed in a post-match interview that he is ‘trying to be like Van Dijk’
The 21-year-old responded by saying he is trying to ‘be like Van Dijk’.
“I’ve improved a lot, but for me it’s about getting even better. I didn’t play the perfect game, but I strive to be good and be like this man next to me.” Quansah added.
‘We didn’t win the match. We didn’t keep a clean slate. That is the mentality you have to have if you want to become a top defender, and that is what I strive for,” the defender continued.
For us the task was to win the match and we had chances in the second half. Coming away with a point is not a bad situation, so we just have to be positive.
‘We just have to enjoy the ride in the coming weeks. If you think back to where we were 12 months ago. Look where we are now. It’s something we don’t take for granted. Sometimes these things happen in football life. I want to make sure we enjoy this too.’
Liverpool play Sparta Praha at home on Thursday, while Manchester City host Newcastle in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.
