I’m a cleaning expert – this is how you can ‘dry clean’ your clothes in your washing machine
- Hazel Mckinnie, from Wee Scotty Cleaners, shared how to do this in a TikTok video
Dry cleaning can be a difficult, lengthy and expensive task for many, especially those who often have to wear formal clothes.
However, these worries may now be a thing of the past as a cleaning expert has claimed that you can dry clean clothes using just a washing machine.
Hazel Mckinnie, from cleaning company Wee Scotty Cleaners, said she found a way to recreate the effect of dry cleaning using a specific setting on her own Beko washing machine, which she recommended to viewers.
Ms Mckinnie posted on her channel on TikTok: ‘I’m going to show you one of these settings on this machine.
‘It’s a Beko. I’ve had many expensive washing machines and I love Beko.

‘Even our service technician who maintains our machines says that Beko is the best. Anyway, I use the delicate (cycle).
‘Who knew you could put on your slacks? I have a jacket and a three-piece men’s suit. This only says dry cleaning, but I’m going to show you a little trick.’
The mother-of-two, who runs her own launderette, then put a washing capsule in the washing machine and then set it to a delicate wash.
This automatically changed to a spin setting at 800 rpm, on a 40 degree wash, adding: ‘That’s all I want’.
Sharing the final results, she added: ‘The laundry is done and the clothes washed fantastically.
‘Now all I have to do is hang them in a warm room and they come up fantastic. Maybe all you need is a little steam.”
Although Hazel has a Beko washing machine, which can be bought from Curry’s for £239, a number of appliances from other brands have a delicate wash setting, meaning her tip could work on a number of different machines.
Commenting on the video, some users were eager to try the ‘hack’ for the first time, while others said they had been doing it for a long time with great results.

One user said: ‘I’ve been doing this for years, I never use dry cleaners’.
A second added: ‘I always use delicate on all my clothes.’
A third was more cautious, warning: ‘Works for many suits, but be careful not to wash virgin wool. Suits can come loose from the wool lining after too much washing.’
A fourth said this also works for bed linen, noting: ‘You can also get clean sheets that you put in the dryer with the garment to clean.’
