Hollywood heavyweight Reece Witherspoon purchases unlikely Australian TV show for American spin-off: ‘A dream come true’
Hollywood superstar Reece Witherspoon has picked up the rights to an unlikely Australian lifestyle show launched during the pandemic.
Channel Nine’s Country House Hunters, presented by Catriona Rowntree, follows Australians who have chosen to leave their city lives behind and move to the countryside.
Following the series’ major spin-off success in New Zealand and Canada, Reece’s production company Hello Sunshine has now picked up the format for US audiences on A+E Networks.
A+E has also ordered the franchise’s entire back catalog to air simultaneously with the US version.
Host Catroina said she is happy with the growth of Country House Hunters, describing the program as ‘the little Australian show that roared’.

“When I was hired it was only meant for ten shows during the lockdown. “We’re about to finish episode 80 now, we’re booked for a new series and if we could find an eighth day a week we’d be filming,” she shared The Herald Sun on Sunday.
“It’s joyful, it’s positive, it’s encouraging, they’re all wonderful superlatives. Everything about it is hopefully uplifting.”
The series was developed by Melbourne-based Abode Entertainment and has already aired three seasons in Australia on Nine.
“This partnership marks an important milestone for us at Abode Entertainment, and we are thrilled for the opportunity to bring our unique stories to a global platform,” Gary Takle, executive producer at Abode Entertainment, said in a press release last week.

“Country House Hunters’ journey from local favorite to international hit is a dream come true, and we’re excited to see where this partnership will take us.”
Catriona previously revealed that the Country House Hunters concept reflected her own life living on a sheep farm in rural Victoria.
‘Country House Hunters is inspired by my real life; leaving the city to start a new life on a sheep and grain farm and embrace a beautiful new community,” Catriona told The Herald Sun in 2020.
