9 killed in western Wisconsin traffic crash involving a semitruck and a van, report says

DEWHURST, Wis. — A crash Friday at a highway intersection in western Wisconsin involving a semitrailer and a van reportedly left nine people dead.

KSTP reports that the Clark County Sheriff’s Office told the station that nine people died in the crash. The sheriff’s office did not return messages from The Associated Press and the Wisconsin State Patrol referred questions to local authorities.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of everyone involved, as well as the first responders who worked quickly to provide support on the ground,” Governor Tony Evers wrote on X.

Preliminary reports indicated the semitrailer collided on State Highway 95 with a van traveling on County Highway J, the sheriff’s department said in an earlier statement.

The van entered the intersection and was struck by the semitrailer, police said.

The crash closed Highway 95. Video footage showed both vehicles on their sides.

It is not clear exactly how many people were in the two vehicles.
