At least two people have been killed after a National Guard helicopter crashed in Texas, multiple law enforcement sources confirm KXAN.

The helicopter crashed on Friday afternoon in the border town of La Grulla, near the Rio Grande.

According to the plane, three soldiers and a Border Police agent were on board Fox news.

Law enforcement sources told the station that the National Guard soldiers were working Department of Homeland Security cases.

All at least four people were seriously injured, Victor Escalon, South Texas regional director for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told local media.

The helicopter ‘Lakota’ belonged to the New York National Guard.

Escalon said the plane was “a military helicopter under federal orders in coordination with Border Patrol” and was not part of Operation Lone Star, Texas’ border enforcement arm that works with the National Guard.

The Starr County Sheriff’s Office said it is “currently assisting with a helicopter crash incident on the east side of the county that may involve four occupants.”

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed it is assisting federal agencies with the crash, which occurred near Old Military Road, about two miles east of La Grulla.

Former Republican Congresswoman Mayra Flores Vallejo asked the public to pray for the victims.

“I am asking for a prayer request and support for Border Patrol and CBP Air and Marine Operations. A tragic helicopter accident has just occurred near La Grulla, Texas. My thoughts and prayers are with you,” she wrote on X.
