In the post, Abbie acknowledged that while there is “a HUGE amount of work to do” when it comes to women’s rights, she feels like many of the celebrations are performative.
‘I’ve always found it difficult to get excited about attending a morning tea organized BY women FOR women, and having the same women have to clean up, told by male CEOs to ‘do something nice for the office’, as if it were emotional labor them going out of their way to throw the morning tea for themselves is not against the whole idea of celebration,” she ranted.
‘As if women aren’t constantly expected to throw free office parties just because ‘women are better at that!!!’ (We call this “weaponized incompetence”)’.
She added that the celebrations don’t matter “if there are no tangible changes in our daily lives.”

Abbie then explained the history of International Women’s Day, emphasizing that “women are still fighting for this equality.”
She said “there are still big steps to be made,” adding that “a cupcake won’t help with that.”
The reality TV star then outlined what she thinks International Women’s Day should be about.
‘I don’t want the male CEO to get a pat on the back for gathering everyone in the kitchen for a morning tea, set up by his female staff, to say ‘thanks for all the hard work ladies!!!’ only to go back to his office where women are paid less and harassed more,” she continued.
She concluded, “We need actual education that reaches those who won’t listen. We don’t need a damn cupcake.
