Sam Kerr allegedly called a policeman a “stupid white PC” after throwing up in a taxi on a night out – but will try to get the case thrown out of court
- Sam Kerr allegedly called an officer a ‘stupid white cop’ and pleaded not guilty
- Kerr has been accused of racially abusing a police officer
- She is due to stand trial in London in February next year
Sam Kerr is said to have called a police officer a ‘stupid white police officer’ during a drunken night out in Twickenham.
Kerr, 30, was charged on Monday with racially aggravated harassment of a police officer and entered a not guilty plea, with Kingston Crown Court scheduling a four-day trial for February 2025.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that the incident, which took place on January 30, 2023, was sparked by a dispute over a taxi fare before Kerr allegedly used abusive, threatening or insulting words that caused PC Lovell alarm or distress.
And now it can be revealed that the Chelsea and Australia star is said to have called PC Lovell a ‘stupid white PC’.
She also allegedly threw up in the taxi.

Kerr has been charged with intentionally causing racially aggravated intimidation, alarm or distress to the male PC under section 31(1)(b) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
If convicted next year, the Australian captain faces up to two years in prison.
Kerr was summoned by postal request to make his first appearance at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on February 1. The case was then transferred to Kingston Crown Court.
Wearing a white T-shirt under a black suit jacket as she appeared via video link, she spoke only to confirm her identity and to enter a not guilty plea to the charges.
Kerr was told she was required to take part in a four-day trial, scheduled for February next year, in which two police officers are expected to testify.
A hearing will be held on April 26, where her defense is expected to seek to dismiss the case, arguing it constitutes an abuse of process.
Judge Judith Elaine Coello said she understood Kerr’s defense would be that she did not intend to cause alarm, intimidation or fear to the police officer and that her slur was not racially motivated.
According to The Sun, the delay in charging her was due to CPS lawyers discussing the crime for which they should charge her.
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes will speak to the press for the first time since the Kerr news later today, while Australia boss Tony Gustavsson revealed on Tuesday he was unaware of the alleged incident involving his captain.
Kerr appeared at Kingston Crown Court and a new date has been set for April
“I heard about it for the first time this morning,” he said.
“I was informed this morning and was obviously surprised and had some time to talk to the federation (Football Australia) about it.
‘And as you know, the federation has issued a statement. Because it is a legal process, I have to refer to that statement.
‘Unfortunately I can’t say more than that.
“But I can make it very clear that today was the very first time I heard about it.”
Gustavsson was asked about Kerr’s character and whether the alleged crime was consistent with her personality.
“I cannot comment on the violation as it is a legal matter at this time,” he said.
“The only thing I can comment on is my experiences and interactions with Sam, as a person, as a footballer.
‘And I have only had positive experiences with that.’
