Jamie Carragher has shared what he thinks Liverpool’s trump card could be as the Premier League prepares for a treble title race ahead of the end of the season.

Jürgen Klopp’s team are at the top of the Premier League, but with 63 points they have a narrow lead over the 62 points of serial champions Manchester City.

Third top flight contenders Arsenal are just one point below Pep Guardiola’s treble winners on 61 points after their 6-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Monday evening.

The three clubs will need to feel confident at the end of the season, with Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal all able to remain clear thanks to their rivals’ results.

But Carragher suggested – speaking after the Gunners’ demolition at Bramall Lane – that his former side had an extra weapon in their arsenal that their rivals could only aspire to.

“I don’t think anyone has applied it better than Jurgen Klopp since the introduction of the five-substitution rule,” Carragher told Sky Sports. ‘We talked about Arsenal before and you think about how they can win the league.

“They are the best defensively, Manchester City are probably the best team with the best individuals, but this is where Liverpool can win the league from the bench because Klopp always uses five substitutions.”

Carragher highlighted that the Reds had used 119 substitutes since the start of the season, a figure that dwarfs Man City’s relatively paltry 74.

Arsenal are ‘a little closer’ to the league leaders after fielding 107 substitutes during the current league campaign.

Liverpool showed off their squad depth in the Carabao Cup final, with Klopp forced to opt for youth options in the wake of an injury crisis that left key players such as Mohammed Salah, Alisson, Dominic Szoboszlai and Trent Alexander-Arnold sidelined.

Young stars Jaydan Danns, Jarrell Quansah, James McConnell and Bobby Clark were used against Chelsea at Wembley, helping the Merseyside club to a 1-0 extra-time win, with many of the youngsters set to feature during the FA’s next team. Cup match against Norwich City later that week.

Klopp’s clever use of substitutes could also go hand-in-hand with the club’s impressive record of late wins.

Mail Sport reported that the Anfield club led the way in second-half goals after scoring 42 times in the last 45 minutes.

Liverpool recorded their last ever win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday after Darwin Nunez waited until the 99th minute to score the match winner at the City Ground.

The home side were outraged that the goal was allowed to stand, but the late goal allowed Liverpool to claim their 18th stoppage time win of the Klopp era – and help them stay top of the Premier League at the end of the weekend. .
