Why Australian shoppers are buying all their cleaning groceries from Bunnings instead of the supermarket

Shoppers are turning away from the big supermarkets and instead scanning the aisles of Bunnings for cheap cleaning products.

Customers have noticed significant savings from the hardware giant on items such as dishwasher tablets and detergent.

Bunnings stocks household and cleaning items in bulk for as much as $20 cheaper than the major supermarkets.

‘If you don’t buy Bunnings cleaning products you’re throwing your money away,’ smart saver Cassandra Davidson said in a video.

“I’m going to grab the dishwashing tablets, they’re 36 cents each, which means a savings of 24 cents, or you can get 10 more for $8 less.”

Fairy Platinum Plus dishwasher tablets cost $56 for a full price of 42 at Coles, but at Bunnings the same product is available in a pack of 84 for $44.80.

Dynamo 5.4L Professional 7-in-1 Liquid Laundry Detergent costs just $27.67 at Bunnings, while it will cost you $47 at the supermarket.

It’s not just Cassandra who has taken advantage of the big savings at Bunnings.

“If you live near a Bunnings, compare their cleaning supplies to those from supermarkets and Big W,” one woman advised on Facebook.

“I found that their Dynamo is about $9 cheaper, even though they are different types, namely: odor removal and deep cleaning.”

She added that she felt dishwasher tablets at Bunnings were not that expensive and suggested customers look online to compare prices.

“They’re cheaper too, aren’t they, so even if it’s cheaper elsewhere, Bunning will beat it,” one user commented.

“I bought a 5L Cold Power from Bunnings on sale for $23 a few weeks ago, I paid $12 for 1L at Woolies so it’s a win for me,” replied another.

One customer found that Morning Fresh Lemon Dishwashing Liquid was almost half the price at Bunnings than at Coles.

“I buy all my cleaning supplies in bulk from Bunnings,” said one mother.

“It was the same with washing scented beads, Coles was selling them for $32 but Bunnings was selling them for $15.50,” another recalled.

Many shared the stores where they found stock cleaning supplies at affordable prices, including Aldi, the Reject Shop and the Drugstore Warehouse.

‘Dishwashing tablets and washing powder are even cheaper at The Reject Shop! I bought 6kg of washing powder for $12 last week,” said one budget manager and a second agreed: “The Reject Shop. Always half that price’.

‘Chemist Warehouse is also good for cleaning products! Especially if you’re looking for brands like Ecostore, always cheaper than Woolies,” wrote a third.
