14-year-old Dakota, from Melbourne’s west, was walking with her friend along Melbourne’s Altona Pier when five older teenage girls attacked her on Wednesday afternoon.

“The paramedic counted how many times my daughter had this blow to the head and it was more than 55,” said Dakota’s mother, who did not want to be named. 9News.

‘They thought it was funny. She could have been killed.”

The attack might have continued had a man nearby not intervened.

‘That’s enough man. She’s small, yeah,” the man could be heard saying in the background of the video.

Dakota’s mother said her shy and timid daughter was just beginning to come out of her shell.

But she is now too afraid to leave the house without her mother.

“To see your daughter go through this and you’re just helpless. My daughter doesn’t even go to school now, so that’s where her education is,” she said.

Police told Daily Mail Australia the attackers are known to the victim, but no arrests have yet been made.
