They’re finally making a Mass Effect board game and it sounds epic

Modiphius Entertainment, the studio behind science fiction-inspired tabletop games like Dune: Adventures in the Empire, Fallout: Factions, and the Homeworld TTRPG has been leveled up. The next offering is a cooperative, story-driven board game titled Mass effect on the board game – Priority: Hagalaz. Even better is the fact that it was built by acclaimed designer Eric Lang (Seething anger, Life in Reterra) and Calvin Wong Tze Loon 黃子倫 (Crazy rich Asians).

Mass Effect on the board game takes place during the events of Mass effect 3. First released in 2012, the multi-platform, best-selling title brought to an end the long and arduous journey of Commander Shepard and their crew. According to a press release, this story-driven board game for 1-4 players starts in Normandy and sees players team up to fight back against the Reapers. The final product will include pre-assembled 32mm scale plastic miniatures of both a male and female Shepard, as well as Liara, Tali, Wrex and pan-galactic tridactyl heartthrob Garrus.

From today’s press release:

A branching, narrative campaign allows for multiple playthroughs with a different experience each time. Map-driven AI and evolving stories respond to your actions; your first choices influence later missions. Assemble Shepard’s team from a selection of teammates from the Mass Effect trilogy (…). Customize and upgrade your team’s skills, equipment, and powers as they gain experience. Enhance them further by unlocking unique powers with optional loyalty missions.

The announcement makes no mention of a crowdfunding campaign. Instead, the final product will be distributed by Asmodee “later” in 2024. No pricing information has been announced. Fans can sign up for the newsletter at the official website.
