Georgia teen critically injured after police trade gunfire with a group near Six Flags
AUSTELL, Ga. — A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured in a shooting near Six Flags Over Georgia, a popular amusement park in suburban Atlanta, after police exchanged gunfire with a group of people on Sunday, authorities said.
Cobb County Police Department officers assisted with crowd control at the amusement park entrance Saturday “after several fights occurred” between people leaving the park, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a news release.
“At some point, multiple people began shooting, striking an unoccupied CCPD-marked patrol car,” the statement said. “When officers identified where the shots were coming from, they chased after people who had run into the woods. The CCPD officer fired his weapon, striking a minor.”
Authorities said the 15-year-old was taken to Grady Hospital and was determined to be in critical condition.
According to the GBI, no officers were injured and police found a gun near the 15-year-old. The GBI is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting and will submit its findings to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.
