NFL legend Jerry Rice admits he’s ‘nervous’ to watch his son, Brenden, at the 2024 NFL Combine but the ‘proud’ dad insists the USC wide receiver has ‘worked really hard’

NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice admitted he was nervous about seeing his son, USC wide receiver Brenden Rice, at the NFL combine.

Brenden, who transferred to USC from Colorado in 2022, opted out of this year’s NFL Draft for the remainder of his studies.

Jerry, the greatest wide receiver in NFL history, insisted his son had worked very hard when asked if his son is ready for the NFL.

“I’m so proud, but I think he’s worked really hard and he’s looking forward to his opportunity,” he told NFL Network.

“And I’m just a parent, I’m just here to support him… You know, I hear people say to me all the time, ‘Don’t be so critical,’ and things like that. But only if he asked me for information would I pass that information on to him.

“But I’m just here as a parent and it’s going to be a great opportunity for him, so I’m excited for him.”

Jerry, who spent most of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, admitted it was moving to see his son in the spotlight.

“It’s always nervous,” Rice said when asked about his nerves while watching his son.

“You know, when your kids try something that’s really incredible, you always try to put them in a position where they can win.

“But that’s like when my daughter sang the national anthem and it was like oh my god, I almost died on that football field before the game.”

Jerry played in 303 regular season games during his 20-year NFL career, recording 1,549 receptions, 22,895 yards and 197 touchdowns.

He was also named a 10-time All-Pro, 13-time Pro Bowler and won three Super Bowls, among a list of other accolades.

During his two years in Southern California, after transferring from Colorado, he amassed 84 total catches, 1,402 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Brenden also saw his press conference hilariously crashed by teammate predicting No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams.

Williams will have some time off in Indianapolis as he is not participating in on-field drills. Instead, he wanted to play reporter for a chance to ask his former teammate a few questions.

‘How does it feel to be Jerry Rice’s son? After that I have one more question!’ Williams started.

“Man, it feels even better to be Caleb Williams’ teammate!” Rice responded.
