Where to find the Tonberry King’s Crown in FF7 Rebirth
In Final Fantasy 7 RebirthAfter helping the many Johnnys outside the Costa del Sol, another clone will peer into the desert ahead, longing for a The Tonberry King’s crown to decorate his inn, as part of “The story of Seaside Inn‘side quest. However, if you try to cross the water leading to that stage of the quest, you cannot pass through the rubble, even with a chocobo.
You won’t be able to complete this quest until you get much further into the game, so for now just keep moving forward to the main scenario missions (indicated by the blue markers on your map).
Below we explain where you can find the Tonberry King Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthand how to take it out in battle.
Where to find the Tonberry King in FF7 Rebirth
So you can only get to the Tonberry King after you have completed the open world exploration section of Corel in Chapter 9. There will come a point where you will be given a new method of transportation that will make short work of the debris and water that previously blocked your way. Once you’re there, you’ll know: we won’t spoil you.
Before you can spawn the Tonberry King, you must find and scan all six life sources in Corel. They are located in the locations we have circled below:
As usual with springs, when you get close, a bird will appear and lead you to the spring.
Once you do that, the Tonberry King will be here, south of Johnny:
How to defeat the Tonberry King in FF7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy fans should already know what to expect from the Tonberry King: he will stab you and kill you instantly. And yes, he still does. The best you can do is keep attacking him from behind while occasionally moving out to deal ranged damage.
You’ll have to keep your distance, as he’ll occasionally release an explosion in a circle around it, freezing you and setting you up for an easy stab. Some of his stabs are moves you can’t recover from. The disabled character receives a debuff that prevents you from using Phoenix Down on it.
It also summons smaller barrel berries, and the same goes for them: keep dodging and don’t let them sting you.
If pressed, it will drop the crown during the battle, and you can use it To steal on the crown itself, netting yourself a net cool crown to give to Johnny. If you don’t do this and end up killing it, you’ll get a marred crown (which you can still give to Johnny). If you kill it and want to go back and steal the crown, you can always fight it again by holding the Triangle button in the arena.
Should you give Johnny the Marred Crown or the Pristine Crown?
If you like Johnny the marred crown, he questions the jankiness of it, but accepts it. If you like Johnny the cool crownhe marvels at its beauty before returning to his inn.
For your efforts he will give you Queen’s Blood Card #134: J-Squad (which, yes, is a map of him and his clones).
You’ll also get a good chunk of EXP and your relationship with Yuffie will grow. We didn’t notice any specific other reward based on the crown you gave him, but the crown is on display at the reception, so you can give Johnny the shiny, pristine crown if you care about aesthetics.
After all this, you can quickly travel to his inn, where you can find all the collectibles you found during your journey. There is also a mysterious glowing red chest that is locked. While we’re confident this will unlock once you collect all 88 collectibles, we can’t say for sure as we haven’t even found them all yet.
