Eufy’s new 4K outdoor security camera can run endlessly on solar power
Smart home brand Eufy has pulled back the curtain on their new 4K outdoor camera that can work indefinitely without a wired power source or internet connection.
It’s called the 4G LTE camera S330 and has a removable solar panel to power the 9,400 mAh battery. You don’t have to worry about the device not working in gloomy skies, because the battery lasts a whole month. Furthermore, the Cam S330 only requires two hours of direct sun exposure to fully charge the battery, ensuring smooth operation during the rainy seasons.
As you can probably guess from the name, the camera can connect to the 4G LTE mobile network. Eufy packs a free 3-in-1 SIM card from the smart IoT brand EIOTCLUB. Installing it allows the Cam S330 to connect to the AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon networks. Which of the three he chooses depends on which of the three is the most stable at the moment. Of course, you do have the option to connect the model to the WiFi in your home instead.
Eufy gives buyers the option to use their own SIM cards. However, they recommend double-checking with providers whether their SIM card can actually be used on a security camera. You can install a 5G SIM card if you wish, but keep in mind that the Cam S330 cannot use the 5G network. The default setting is automatic 4G. Additionally, the company claims that the “estimated data usage is approximately 700MB per month,” although the actual usage amount may vary.
Specifications
Looking at the camera itself, the lens is capable of recording 4K resolution color videos all day and night. It sits on a turntable so it can rotate 360 degrees and tilt up to 70 degrees. On board is an AI Auto Tracking feature to hone in on people or vehicles entering your property.
There are ways to complement the Cam S330. The device is compatible with Eufy’s Home Base S380, allowing storage space of up to 16 TB. It also introduces facial recognition software through BionicMind AI. If that’s too much technology for you, the camera comes with a microSD slot on board. You can do that by default instead. A free 32 GB microSD card is included with purchase. There’s room for up to 8 months of 4K footage, but if you want more you can always upgrade to a 128GB card.
Other notable features include two-way audio, a bright 100-lumen spotlight, and support for Google Voice Assistant and Alexa. Eufy’s 4G LTE Cam S330 is now on sale for $250/£250/€280.
One of the main uses of this security camera is to inspect large areas. Many of the images show it being used on a farm. If you prefer something more compact, check out Ny Breaking’s list of the best home security cameras for 2024.
