Man, 24, dies after being swept out to sea while wading in the shallows at Pippi Beach in Yamba
A 24-year-old man has died after being thrown into the sea while wading in shallow water.
The man was with a friend in shallow water at Pippi Beach in Yamba, on the north coast of New South Wales, when he was swept away by the surf.
He called for help before disappearing beneath the surface around 2:30 p.m.

Pippi Beach is not patrolled.
Police, paramedics, surf lifesavers and the Westpac rescue helicopter searched for the man and he was eventually found by the helicopter crew at 6pm.
He was brought to shore, but could not be saved.
The man is said to have been on holiday from Sydney.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
