Not much of a navigator! Heart-stopping moment alligator lunges toward cart on Florida golf course leaving driver heading for a pond as he veers off path

This is the heartbreaking moment an alligator charges towards a cart on a Florida golf course, leaving the driver stranded towards a pond as he veers off the path.

The alligator can be seen boldly running towards the cart before coming dangerously close to the passenger as the vehicle drives along the water in Ave Maria, Florida.

But the reptile has no desire to chase the vehicle and instead quietly makes its way to the pond.

Florida is home to approximately 1.3 million alligators and if they are less than five feet long they pose little or no threat to humans. Sightings of them on golf courses are not uncommon in the state.

Social media users were quick to comment on the post, with one writing: ‘Wow, how lucky the golfer didn’t end up in the pond

Another posted: “One more right swerve with that wheel and the alligator could have had a pair of thigh bones on the 8th hole!”

Someone else added: ‘Who knew golf was such a dangerous sport?’

In March last year, a huge alligator tore through a newly installed metal fence at a golf club in Florida.

A local meteorologist shared the video from the coastal town of Placida, which has more than a million views on Facebook and 50,000 likes on Instagram.

“Look at this big guy bending the aluminum bars and plowing through them in Placida this week,” Matt Devitt wrote. Aluminum is considered a lightweight metal, which explains how the enormous alligator was able to push its way through the fence so easily, Devitt explained to Fox 35.

But much thinner materials are also used to build porch dividers intended to keep the reptiles out of people’s yards, raising fears about what would happen if this alligator encountered such an obstacle.

Florida alligators are known to move more frequently in the spring and have been seen climbing over fences in the past, but this alligator clearly wanted a more direct route.

Devitt noted that the person who originally shot the video said the alligator eventually made its way completely to the other side.

“He knows what he’s doing… he’s done it before,” one Facebook commenter on Devitt’s post quipped ominously.

“That’s why in Florida, if there’s water, there’s an alligator in it! Stay safe people!,” said another on Instagram.

In February last year Gloria Serge, 85, was mauled to death by the 10-foot alligator named Henry when she tried to save her beloved dog Trooper from the beast.

Henry was later captured and euthanized, while three other reptiles were subsequently captured and removed from the series of interconnected lakes by wildlife officials.

A terrified neighbor tried to save Gloria and called 911 after witnessing the alligator lunching at her after chasing her for more than 100 feet.

Her dog, Trooper, survived the attack, with the reptile captured and euthanized after her death.
