Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has criticized Moises Caicedo’s ‘really bad tackle’ which led to Ryan Gravenberch being sent off the pitch on a stretcher.

Gravenberch suffered an injury after a challenge from Chelsea midfielder Caicedo in the Carabao Cup final.

Robertson followed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in criticizing Caicedo as the Reds’ injury list continues to grow.

Although Liverpool won the Carabao Cup, Gravenberch’s injury was a major talking point after the match.

Robertson told Sky Sports: ‘Ryan’s injury is a very bad tackle. You can’t paint it any other way. It’s a very bad tackle on his ankle and you have to hope it’s not as bad as the pain he felt on the pitch.

“So fingers crossed for that and hopefully slowly but surely we get the boys back because it’s ramping up now and we have to continue the way we are going now.

‘But hopefully we’ll introduce players back into the squad and we’ll get stronger and stronger. Hopefully we will be back soon enough with a fully fit team, so that we can really continue until the end of the season.’

After the match, Klopp criticized referee Chris Kavanagh for not punishing Caicedo after the challenge.

He told Sky Sports: ‘There were two teams fighting extremely hard and the referee was not at the level of the game, that’s how it is. I’m sorry, I know they’ll make a story out of it, but… wasn’t it even a violation? He didn’t even whistle for a foul.

‘And then the fourth official explains to me: ‘We can’t give a card because -‘ oh, good idea. They’re guys, I’m not sure if it’s too much or too soon for them, but that situation was clear.

“The doctor came over and saw the foot stomping on the ankle – that’s all you need for a card.”

In addition to Gravenberch, Liverpool are also currently without a host of other players, with Mohamed Salah, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota among those out.

Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Joel Matip and Stefan Bajcetic are also sidelined.
