DRDO hands over 23 license agreements for transfer of technologies | India News – Business Standard
Leading defense research organization DRDO on Sunday handed over 23 license agreements to various defense manufacturers that will facilitate transfer of crucial technologies for production of a range of military equipment in areas including armaments, naval systems and aerospace.
The agreements were handed over at the ‘MSME Defense Expo’ organized by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in Pune.
The technologies to be transferred by the DRDO to the defense manufacturers would cover the domains of electronics, laser systems, armaments, life sciences, combat vehicles, naval systems and aerospace, the defense ministry said.
These technologies would facilitate the production of a range of military equipment, including brakes for Tejas light combat aircraft, a 100-meter infantry footbridge (floating), a 40mm high explosive anti-personnel grenade (HEAP) and a high-pressure water mist fire suppression system (HPWMFSS). ), officials said.
“The products based on these DRDO technologies will further boost the defense manufacturing sector and defense self-reliance,” the ministry said in a statement.
It said the DRDO has handed over SAMAR (System for Advance Manufacturing Assessment and Rating) assessment certificates to nine industrial partners.
SAMAR is a benchmark to measure the competence of defense production companies.
Addressing defense manufacturers, DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat reiterated his organization’s commitment to provide all technological support for the development of the Indian defense industry.
He explained that the recent success of DRDO products has not only made the country more self-reliant in defense technology but also provided immense opportunities to the industries in the defense manufacturing sector.
Kamat emphasized that the industries are invaluable partners and it is an opportune time for an Indian industry to take advantage of the government’s latest initiatives and policies and make the country a hub of defense manufacturing.
The industry executives were also briefed on the latest policies and procedures through which the DRDO is supporting the defense manufacturers.
Some of the policy measures discussed include transfer of technologies, testing and evaluation support, technological and scientific support, research and development funding to the industry and free use of DRDO patents by the manufacturers.
