An 83-year-old British tourist has died after being run over by a bus on the holiday island of Lanzarote.
The unnamed woman was taken to hospital in a ‘critical’ condition after being hit by the vehicle in the popular resort of Costa Teguise and stabilized at the scene.
Officials confirmed today that she died at the Jose Molina Orosa Hospital in the island capital Arrecife.
The dead woman is not mentioned. Police confirmed she was an 83-year-old British citizen.
The tragic accident happened just after 9am on Wednesday. She is believed to have lost her battle for life later the same day, although officials have not clarified the exact time of death.

A spokesperson for a regional government-run emergency coordination center said before the British woman’s death was announced: ‘A woman hit by a bus in Lanzarote has been taken to Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital with serious injuries.
“The first alert was received at 9.08am on Wednesday, stating that a road traffic accident had occurred in the municipality of Teguise and one person had been injured.”
It was not clear this morning whether the British tourist was alone or accompanied by family or friends when she was hit.
Local reports said some witnesses had told investigators that the driver of the bus, owned by a private company but operating a public transport service, had been traveling “too fast”, but there has been no official confirmation of this claim or of the exact circumstances of the event. accident.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by police employed by Teguise Town Hall, who will submit a report to an investigating judge.
The bus driver, who has not been arrested, will be questioned as part of the investigation.
