How a couple kept to themselves after moving to a small Queensland town for a ‘peaceful’ life before husband allegedly ran over his wife with a tractor slasher at Woodhill

The alleged murder of a married mother on a rural farm by her husband has shocked the local community, where the couple kept a low profile.

Yadwinder Singh, 44, allegedly murdered his wife Amarjit Kaur Sardar, 41. on their 55.5 hectare sugar cane farm in Woodhill, south central QueenslandThursday at 9:00 am.

First responders were called to the scene where they found Ms Sardar who had reportedly been run over by a tractor slasher. She died on the spot.

Police will allege that Singh killed his wife before interfering with her corpse to make the death appear accidental.

Locals in the quiet area are still reeling from the horrific allegations, with some claiming the town will never be the same.

The couple bought the property in 2017 for $750,000 after moving from Brisbane and their two children attending school in nearby Beaudesert.

“The family didn’t socialize with the local community, but the woman seemed like a nice person – quiet and devoted to her family,” one local resident, who has lived in Woodhill for almost 50 years, said The Cairns Post.

Veresdale Hotel owner Leon Mills said he did not know the couple but it was more than likely they had visited his venue.

“The property is very close and was probably used to grow organic vegetables to take to the markets,” he said.

“I never expected this to happen in Woodhill, it’s so quiet and peaceful.”

Local Matt Dunn said everyone in the community was aware of how dangerous a tractor slasher could be.

Logan’s Center For Women & Co released a statement saying the death hit close to home for many.

“We are incredibly saddened and sickened to hear of Amarjit’s alleged murder and can hardly imagine her final moments.

“Our thoughts are with her two children, her family, her friends and her loved ones.”

On Saturday, Detective Inspector Chris Knight told the media: ‘He (Singh) reported that his wife had died and some limited follow-up questions were put to him by the (ambulance) operators.’

Inspector Knight added that detectives had seized both Singh and Ms Sardar’s phones and that Singh’s triple-0 call was ‘part of our research’.

Videos found on the phones are also being analyzed by investigators.

Police have seized a tractor slasher and a sedan from the rural property.

The children were not at home when their mother died and relatives traveled to Queensland to care for them.

According to court documents, Singh is a truck driver born in India.

He appeared earlier Beenleigh Magistrates Court and was charged with murder and “misconduct with corpse by interference” on Friday.

The case is adjourned until June 5.
