LSU women’s basketball player Angel Reese congratulated her rival Caitlin Clark of Iowa on breaking the NCAA women’s scoring record in Thursday night’s game against Michigan.

Clark scored her eighth point of the night with a pull-up 3-pointer from the logo, officially surpassing Washington’s Kelsey Plum’s record in 2017.

“Congratulations @CaitlinClark22,” Reese said. ‘KEEP BREAK RECORDS AND CREATE HER STORY!’

Reese and Clark had a thrilling encounter at last year’s NCAA Women’s National Championship game.

Since LSU was up late, it was Reese who waved her hand in front of her face as she stared Clark down. She was later seen pointing to her ring finger as the Tigers defeated Clark’s Hawkeyes for the championship.

Top 5 NCAAW Scorers

1. Caitlin Clark, Iowa (2020-24): 3,569

2. Kelsey Plum, Washington (2013-2017): 3,527

3. Kelsey Mitchell, Ohio St (2014-18): 3,402

4. Jackie Stiles, Missouri State (1997-2001) 3,393

5. Brittney Griner, Baylor (2009-2013): 3,283

Clark had previously made the hand-waving gesture during the 2023 NCAA tournament.

According to Reese, she made those gestures after the title game because of “disrespect” from Clark.

“I was waiting,” Reese said on ESPN’s postgame show last April.

“Caitlin Clark is certainly a great player, but I don’t take respect lightly.

“She had no respect for Alexis (Morris) and my girls, South Carolina, they’re my SEC girls too.

“Neither will you despise them. I wanted to pick her pocket, but at the end of the game I had a moment and I was in my bag. I was in my moment.’

Clark addressed these comments, saying Reese should not be criticized for them.

“We’re all competitive,” Clark said. ‘We all show our emotions in different ways.’

‘Angel is a great, great player. I have nothing but respect for her.

“I love her game, the way she rebounds the ball and scores the ball is absolutely incredible. I’m a big fan of hers. Even the entire LSU team, the way they played. I don’t think there should be any criticism of what she did.

“I honestly didn’t see it when the game was going on and like I said, I haven’t been on social media at all.”

Others in the sports world were quick to congratulate Clark on social media.

‘She made history! Cheers to @CaitlinClark22, the new NCAA Women’s Basketball All-Time Leading Scorer,” tennis icon Billie Jean King wrote on Twitter.

WNBA team owner and Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady, who watched his alma mater — Michigan — fall to Clark’s Iowa on Thursday, congratulated the Hawkeyes star

“I just wanted to say congratulations on the record,” he said. “Like the rest of the country, I’ve been watching you guys chase my girl Kelsey (Plum, who plays on Brady’s Las Vegas Aces). I know she’s proud of you too. ..I’ll look.’

Clark may not be done breaking her records this season. She is just 98 points shy of Pete Maravich’s Division I record, regardless of gender.
