King Charles’ Jaguar I-Pace is being auctioned: the first electric car in the royal family

In a unique opportunity to be the first to own a royal eco-first, a Jaguar I-Pace personally purchased by King Charles III will be auctioned at Ascot Racecourse next month.

King Charles, always a champion of environmental goals and a well-known car enthusiast, personally purchased this electric car from Jaguar in 2018.

This made it the first fully electric car in the royal family.

The I-Pace was personally purchased by the King in this one-off ‘Loire Blue’ and was used by His Majesty to drive members of the Royal Family

With only two new owners (the King being one of them) it has only 35,000 miles on the odometer and is in pristine condition

The top class Jaguar I-Pace EV400 HSEfinished in ‘Loire Blue’ at the request of the King, it will be sold by Historics Auctioneers on Saturday 2 March.

The winning bidder will not only get their hands on the first green royal car, they will also own the only I-Pace in this color in the world.

The interior is also finished in sumptuous, contrasting leather aptly called Light Oyster Windsor.

His Majesty originally paid £60,000 for the luxury all-wheel drive EV, which is now estimated to reach £55,000 to £70,000 at public auction.

Almost as decorated as its former royal owner, the I-Pace has a rich heritage, having won 62 international awards, including UK Car of the Year, European Car of the Year and World Car of the Year.

With a keen eye for engines, it’s not surprising that King was one of the first people in Britain to purchase an I-Pace.

He also has a 1965 Aston Martin DB6 Volante that runs on leftover bio-ethanol from wine.

The electric SUV I-Pace has an electric range of between 400 and 430 kilometers.

This I-Pace, seen at public engagements, was used by the then Prince of Wales between 2018 and 2020 and was the first fully electric car in the royal family

His Majesty has long been an eco-champion and a pioneer in the adoption of modern, environmentally friendly transportation methods

The car, which was seen in 2018 with its I-Pace, joins King Charles’ impressive car collection, which includes a 1965 Aston Martin DB6 Volante that runs on recycled wine bio-ethanol

Before the car was delivered, King Charles had a fast charger installed at his official London residence, Clarence House, and then drove Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family around in this high-end model.

In December 2020 it was sold by Jaguar North Oxford with just 3,000 miles on the odometer to current owner Karen French of Bampton, Oxfordshire.

Kept in pristine condition, she explained the serendipitous nature of her purchase: ‘This I-Pace was exactly what I was looking for and was virtually on my doorstep.

‘It wasn’t until I agreed to buy it that I discovered its extraordinary history – I was absolutely thrilled. After driving it for over 30,000 kilometers, I decided in the new year that it was time for a change.’

The star among 180 fine classic and collectible cars, the I-Pace is a brilliant piece of electrical and royal history and is expected to attract a lot of attention.

This sale comes after news that the UK used car market is booming, thanks in part to the influx of second-hand electric cars.

The car has a rich royal provenance and was used to transport members of the royal family during public appearances

Highlighting the car’s enduring value to collectors, Historics Head of Auctions Mathew Priddy said: ‘We are delighted to be bringing this royal icon to auction. It is an unrepeatable piece of electric car history.

‘With the Jaguar I-Pace being discontinued ahead of Jaguar’s 2025 relaunch, this will certainly remain the prime example, reflected in its increasing value.’

With the King often photographed stepping out of this I-Pace during royal engagements, the next owner will one day have quite the ownership history to pass on to the grandchildren.
