Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana lifts active shooter alert triggered by ‘suspicious person on base’ and says NO shots were fired

Malmstrom Air Base in Montana has lifted their lockdown order after an active shooter alert.

The base’s Facebook page ordered all personnel to shelter in place after the alert went out at 10:29 a.m. CST on Thursday, although no further details about the Great Falls incident have been released.

A training exercise was supposed to take place today, but Air Force officials say the active shooter alert is a “real situation” and not related to that test.

The air base confirmed the shooter was still active as of 2:30 p.m., but declined to comment further.

A warning on their Facebook page read: ‘REAL WORLD ACTIVE SHOOTER

“Malmstrom Air Force Base has entered a lockdown status as of 10:29 a.m. Feb. 15 in response to an active shooter alert on base. The safety of our staff is the highest priority and updates will continue to be made through official channels.

‘It is currently advised to shelter in place.’

Local schools have also been ordered to shelter in place while the investigation into the warning continues.

The Great Falls Police Department issued a Facebook alert that read: “INCIDENT IN PROGRESS! Community members may see a heavy police presence on the far east side of the city. We, along with the Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office, are responding to reports of an incident that may be occurring at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

“All Great Falls Public Schools east/south of the river are in shelter in place (SIP). We recommend that all private schools and daycare centers also use SIP

‘WE DO NOT HAVE MORE INFORMATION THAN THIS AT THIS TIME, we will update this post as information becomes available

“DO NOT CALL 911 UNLESS YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY TO REPORT!”

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte and other local lawmakers posted about the incident on X.

Gianforte wrote: “We have been in contact with General Hronek regarding reports of an active shooter alert at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

“I will continue to monitor the situation together with the general.”

Sen. Jon Tester of Montana wrote, “I have spoken to base leadership about reports of an active shooter at Malmstrom Air Force Base and will continue to monitor this developing situation closely.”

Montana Congressman Matt Rosendale also reported on the alert on X, writing, “My staff and I are closely monitoring active shooter development at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

“Praying for the safety of those on base and for law enforcement as they respond quickly to this situation.”

Malmstrom Air Base is located just east of Great Falls along Route 87.
