Don’t know yet which movie to watch this weekend? Leave a comment, we will help you
We love movie recommendations here at Polygon. Whether it’s horror, sci-fi, action, comedy, thrillers or just the best of the year, we always try to introduce readers to new and exciting films that they will love. But now we want to find the perfect movie for you. (That’s you.)
Every Thursday on Polygon we have an open thread dedicated to helping you, our dear readers, find the perfect watch for this weekend. Looking for a science fiction film that makes you think about the wonders (or horrors) of the world? We got you. Want to refresh your world cinema? How about some comfort food? We have you there too.
From 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM EST, I’ll be answering your questions and submitting requests about what to watch this weekend in the comments section below.
A little about me, your curator for this week: I’m Pete Volk, our senior curatorial editor. I love movies of all shapes and sizes, but my main areas of interest are action movies (especially martial arts), classic Hollywood comedies (shout out to the GOAT, Ernst Lubitsch), and keeping up with new releases from around the world (I’ve been in total of 151 watched films from 2023 and nine from 2024 so far).
I looked last week The miracles (not very good, but occasionally entertaining) and the Mads Mikkelsen-led historical drama The promised land (quite good!). This weekend I’m going to check out more fun stuff Mr and Mrs Smith on Prime Video, and I’ll probably watch it Thanksgiving now that it’s on Netflix. And I still have that American fiction in my 2023 catch-up pile, so that’s a good option too.
Now it’s time to turn it around on you. What would you like to see this weekend (or what are you planning to watch)? Leave a request in the comments and I’ll get back to you between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM EST. Details help: let me know what you’re looking for, an idea of your tastes as a viewer, and any other relevant information you’d like to share (such as the streaming services you have access to). And yes, while this idea is focused on movies, I will take TV requests as well.
Some examples of good queries from last week:
See you in the comments at 3:30 PM EST! In the meantime, fire off your requests. We’re trying a different comment format today as we experiment with this recurring story, so our apologies if there are any issues.
