The pair met in Melbourne through mutual friends in 2022.

In 2021, Mr Burbank was jailed for three months after breaking Covid rules during the height of the pandemic.

He hopped across the border into the Northern Territory before traveling to Western Australia to watch Melbourne Demons win at Perth Stadium.

To avoid WA’s then strict border regulations, he forged a rental agreement at an address in Darwin, while also fraudulently obtaining NT driver’s licenses.

Burbank owns Melbourne’s trendy Morris Jones bar, a hotspot for reality stars and glamorous influencers.

Their relationship blossomed after the bar owner spent 90 days behind bars in WA’s maximum security Hakea prison, earning him the nickname ‘borderline offender’.

Mr Burbank described his experience in one of Australia’s toughest prisons as ‘the ultimate game of Survivor’.

“You have to form alliances and not do stupid things and get through every day,” he told the Saturday Herald Sun in March 2022.

‘These are the longest days of your life. I wasn’t built for prison. No one is built for prison.”

The owner of the Chapel St bar shared a cell with one of the prison’s top dogs, a biker, who woke him up every morning and taunted: “Border breaker, boundary breaker.”
