At least 10 hurt in Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade shooting
At least ten people were injured in a shooting in Kansas City, Missouri Wednesday during a Super Bowl victory parade for the Chiefs, local first responders said.
A spokesman for the Kansas City Fire Department said more than 10 people were injured in the shooting. CNN reports this.
It was not immediately clear how the victims were doing, or whether all had been struck by gunfire. One person was reported dead, Reuters reported, citing fire brigade sources, telling ABC TV.
The White House said Wednesday afternoon that they were also monitoring the shooting in Kansas City, as federal law enforcement officials arrived on the scene.
Kansas City police said the shooting happened near Union Station, where hundreds of people had gathered to celebrate Sunday’s Super Bowl victory.
“At the end of the meeting, shots were fired west of Union Station, near the garage, and several people were struck,” said Jake Becchina, spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department. the Kansas City Star reported.
Two armed people were taken into custody, police said.
The Kansas City Fire Department confirmed that a shooting had occurred near the city’s Union Station and called it a “fluid situation,” according to local media reports.
Video footage showed the chaotic scene near Union Station, as police and first responders rushed to the area as attendees scrambled to safety.
Hank Hunter, 16, who traveled to the celebration from Westwood, Kansas, told the Kansas City Star that he heard what sounded like multiple gunshots as he and a friend were running.
“We heard the shots. It sounded like a lot of shots,” Hunter said, adding that he did not see the shooter but saw multiple officers responding to the shooting.
