App users are being plagued by an annoying refresh sound that the company says is an “unfortunate technical glitch.”

For now, Meta, which owns Facebook, has not said when it might fix the problem.

But luckily for those of you driven up the wall by this glitch, there is a simple solution.

Is your Facebook chirping at you? If so, don’t worry because this noise isn’t in your head, it’s actually just a bizarre glitch

However, it appears that this causes the Facebook iOS app to repeatedly trigger the “refresh” sound when the app is open.

Already on Sunday, some social media users reported that the outage was causing problems.

On It happens to me when I scroll or don’t even touch the phone.’

Another added: ‘My Facebook is making a weird beeping noise while I scroll and I tried restarting my phone but it didn’t work. What should I do now?’

While Facebook has confirmed that this is a technical issue it is currently investigating, some more conspiratorial commentators quickly came to a very different conclusion.

Fortunately, this is just a sound glitch that can be easily fixed with a few tweaks to Facebook settings.

To prevent the app from making a chirping sound, the easiest solution is to disable the in-app sound.

First open the menu and go to ‘Settings and privacy’.

From there, select ‘Settings’ and navigate to the ‘Media’ tab under preferences.

This will open the menu for ‘Sounds’, where you’ll find the toggle for ‘In-app Sound’.

All you have to do to stop Facebook chirping is turn it off.

However, this isn’t the worst technical problem Facebook users have faced in the past year.

In May last year, a bizarre glitch sent friend requests to everyone whose profile a user had viewed.

This embarrassing mistake led to aggrieved users being caught red-handed on their ex’s profiles.

And in August, a new outage left users’ news feeds flooded with messages from strangers sharing content from celebrity pages.

While this may seem harmless, some trolls have taken advantage of the glitch by posting a flood of spam on celebrity pages, including PayPal links, cryptocurrency ads, and even links to pornography.
