Dozens of heavily armed police have flooded a street in a western Sydney suburb with officers telling locals to stay away from the area.

Tactical officers in a police armored rescue vehicle blocked off the area around Speed ​​St, Liverpool, about 40km south-west of the CBD, shortly after midday on Wednesday.

Officers were seen storming a red-brick apartment building and later dragging out a shoeless man in a blue T-shirt.

A NSW Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that a man and a woman were taken to Liverpool Police Station.

The pair are assisting the police with their investigation.

People have been advised that there is no ongoing risk to the public at this time.

The operation probably took about an hour.

NSW Police issued a warning on social media just before 1pm, advising people to stay away from the area after the operation began.

Parts of the street were closed off by armored vehicles as armed officers walked the streets in confrontational scenes.

Officers had also cordoned off parts of the street with police tape during the action.
