Amal Clooney is smitten with St Bernard puppy given to her by husband George for her birthday – but he’s already a real armful
They own several grand mansions in beautiful locations around the world — and George and Amal Clooney will likely be extra grateful for all that space, considering the newest addition to their family.
The couple just took possession of a Saint Bernard puppy named Nelson, which was reportedly a surprise birthday gift from the actor to his wife for her 46th birthday.
The adorable pup proved to be more than a handful for civil rights lawyer Amal when the couple took him for a stroll through the picturesque village streets of Cotignac in the south of France.
She struggled to lift him, and then had to use both arms to cradle him – although she had to enjoy that while she could, as St Bernard can grow as heavy as 13 stones.
Wearing a strappy suede mini dress and black boots, Amal laughed as the pup skipped through the winding medieval streets.

The couple in love walked with Nelson through the streets of Contingac, a small village 32 kilometers from Brignolses, on the Var, on the Cote d’Azur, where they now live.
She and George, 62, dressed in jeans and a navy blue polo shirt, visited an art gallery and were joined by friends for lunch on the terrace of the Picotte gourmet restaurant.
There is speculation that the Clooneys have now permanently moved to the Cote d’Azur and no longer spend time at their £10 million Thameside mansion in Sonning, Berkshire.
The couple is said to have lived at the 18th century Domaine du Canadel for several months with their six-year-old twins Ella and Alexander.
And according to locals, they haven’t been seen in the Grade II listed building in Britain – which they bought in 2014 and spent millions renovating – for two years.
Their idyllic French estate includes a 25-hectare vineyard, swimming pool, tennis court, pétanque court, olive grove and ornamental lake.
It’s also just a 25-minute drive from Chateau Miraval, the winery that George’s good friend and fellow actor Brad Pitt bought with Angelina Jolie when they were still married.
She has since secretly sold her stake to a Russian vodka oligarch, sparking an ongoing and bitter legal battle over who has the controlling interest.

The Clooneys, who married in Venice six years ago, also have a luxury home on the shores of Lake Como in Italy.
George purchased Villa Oleandra from the Heinz family in 2002 and spends most summers at the property, which features a basketball court, movie theater and a garage full of vintage motorcycles.
It has hosted a range of stars including Jennifer Aniston and Matt Damon, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Parts of Clooney’s film Ocean’s Twelve were also filmed there. There were reports that Clooney would sell it, but he says these are untrue.
Nelson is not the first Saint Bernard the family owned. Four years ago, George brought along puppy Rosie, named after his late aunt, actress and singer Rosemary Clooney.
He is also known for rescuing animals, who eventually travel the world with him. He previously owned cocker spaniel Einstein, who died in 2017, and the couple have since rescued basset hound Millie and Louie, another spaniel.
