New York City’s famed Empire State Building will serve as a virtual scoreboard during Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
The Empire State will be lit in the colors of both teams, showing the Chiefs on one side and the 49ers on the other.
Whenever either team scores, the entire tower glows in the colors of that franchise for a minute before returning to the divided pattern.
After the game ends, the building is lit up all night in the victor’s colors.
The historic landmark similarly lit up during the Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, when it turned on green and red lights.
The Empire State Building will once again be split into two colors for the Super Bowl
It will probably be half red for the Kansas City Chiefs and half gold for the San Francisco 49ers
Just like last year, the building will be illuminated in the color of the winning team after the match
Last season, the Empire State Building was also lit bright green and white in honor of the Philadelphia Eagles following their NFC Championship victory.
The building’s social media account shared a photo of the green and white lighting along with the caption, “Fly @Eagles Fly!” We’re going with Green and White in honor of the Eagles NFC Championship win.”
Local fans of the New York Giants were aggravated by the building honoring their rivals and then called the account on X for the post.
While the Empire State Building may once again glow bright red if the Chiefs can hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the second straight season, Giants fans can at least take solace in the fact that they won’t see a tribute to one of their division rivals. .
New York Jets fans can also be happy that they won’t have to see rival colors anymore, as both the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills were eliminated from the playoffs by the Chiefs.
