“We will return to normal programming as soon as possible.”

Dermot added: ‘Three great films to watch. It’s almost as if Giles went backstage and fiddled with some buttons so we could lie down for a bit.”

They were joined in the studio by Gyles Brandreth and Isla Traquair to resume the Morning View segment of the show.

Former politician Gyles, 75, – who has been married to Michèle Brown since 1973 – joked that whenever he appears on the show, his wife mutes the television.

He said, “Well, I’m telling you, when I’m on, my wife turns the volume down so she wouldn’t miss it!”

Alison added: “So she’s turning it up again now? I like live TV.’

This morning also went to X to address the disruption. They wrote: ‘Apologies for the technical difficulties, we will get back to you as soon as possible!’

But viewers were less than impressed, saying the technical problem had ‘taken the wheels off the show’.

They wrote: ‘Whatever the technical problem was, it has taken the show out of sight – Alison and Dermot are everywhere. I wonder which segments were demolished in those 15 minutes of downtime.’
