Toby Keith’s friend Brett Favre describes heartbreaking phone call he had with country singer in his final days before his death aged 62 : ‘In the end, he was just tired’
Brett Favre has described the phone conversation he had with his friend Toby Keith just weeks before his death, in which he reflected on their friendship and how the late country icon dealt with his final days.
Speak with TMZ, Favre revealed that he had a phone call with his friend about two weeks ago. Keith passed away at the age of 62 after a battle with stomach cancer.
“I think he was just tired in the end,” Brett told the outlet. ‘He did say that to me when we had our conversation. He said, “Brett, whatever happens, I’m fine with it.” Of course I hoped that what happened wouldn’t have happened.
“He handled it with grace, faith and family. And you fought the cancer as best you could.’
Favre also said his friend “put up a brave front.” He went from 260 to 130. He looked at it.”

When asked if he felt like Keith was not doing well, Favre said, “About every three months I would come see him, knowing that he had stomach cancer and that he was battling it, but I saw that three times he would to play. shows in Vegas, and he didn’t look so good on Instagram.”
‘But, I said, maybe he’s turning a corner. So I messaged him and said, ‘Hey man, great to see you’re playing again and I hope you’re turning a corner.'”
‘And he said, “I stopped chemotherapy, it probably did more damage to me than the cancer.” And he said, “I just hope I didn’t stop too late.”
‘But he said, “I’m grateful that I got the chance to play some shows, I finished them.” So I didn’t ask them: what’s next for you? And he didn’t reveal anything, we just had a general conversation. And damn it, two weeks later he died.”
Favre also shared fond memories of Keith with the outlet, recalling how they struck up a friendship in the mid-1990s.
“We go way back,” Brett began. “We did a concert, Brown County Arena, right across from Lambo, I think it was 95 or 94, and I went there, of course I was a big fan, and we struck up a friendship that lasted until he passed away. ‘
