Meek Mill backs Tucker Carlson’s interview with Vladimir Putin as rapper says ‘let me see what’s going on before we get caught in a war’

Tucker Carlson has been condemned and threatened with travel bans in Europe by Western journalists over his upcoming interview with Vladimir Putin – but appears to have done just that. a celebrity who supported his conversation with the Russian president.

Rapper Meek Mill, who was arrested numerous times between 2012 and 2019, seemed to think the interview would deepen his understanding of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Let me see what’s going on before we get involved in a war we have nothing to do with,” he wrote on Twitter.

The US has given Ukraine more than $75 billion worth of weapons and humanitarian aid since Russian forces invaded on February 24, 2022, but neither the US nor its NATO allies have plans for military intervention.

Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, received strong support from his followers, who objected to sending more money to Ukraine.

Carlson has already interviewed Putin, in the Russian strongman’s first interview with a Western journalist since the massive invasion of Ukraine.

The former Fox host released a video from Moscow on Tuesday saying he would interview Putin and less than 24 hours later the Kremlin confirmed the sit-down had taken place.

Carlson has a long history of making sympathetic statements toward Putin and all but supporting his brutal invasion.

The only reason the Kremlin agreed to the interview, after regularly rejecting requests from other Western media, is its thinly veiled pro-Russian stance.

When it comes to the countries of the collective West, we are talking about large online media, traditional television channels and major newspapers, which cannot boast of attempts to appear at least impartial in terms of reporting,” said spokesman Dmitry Peskov of the Russian government.

‘These are all media channels that adopt a very one-sided attitude. Of course, there is no desire to communicate with such media, and there is hardly any point in it, and it is unlikely to be useful.

‘His position is different from that of the others. It is by no means pro-Russian, it is not pro-Ukrainian – it is pro-American, but at least it stands in contrast to the position of the traditional Anglo-Saxon media.”

Carlson could be subject to sanctions, including travel bans, from the European Union due to his activities in Russia.

Former Belgian Prime Minister and current Member of the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt said this Newsweek that since the Russian president is considered a “war criminal,” it “made sense” for Carlson to be investigated.

Verhofstadt also called for a “travel ban” against Carlson and called the host a “mouthpiece” for Donald Trump, who has long been criticized for his pro-Kremlin views.

Any investigation into Trump would be conducted by the European External Action Service (EEAS), which is essentially the foreign ministry of the 27-nation bloc.

Verhofstadt also tweeted: ‘The real journalists in Russia are in prison or had to flee! Carlson is Putin’s mouthpiece and an enemy of everything the US stands for – no more, no less.”

After the interview was published, Carlson’s friends on the American far right chimed in.

‘The same globalist scum from the EU is trying to force Elon Musk into censorship with threats of criminal prosecution. Now they’re moving in with Tucker! We must stand together for freedom of speech,” wrote Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

‘The EU is considering sanctions against Tucker Carlson for interviewing Putin. This is little more than an admission that they lied about everything related to Ukraine,” wrote commenter Candace Owens.

“This story is about to completely collapse and they are terrified,” she added.

“Was there ever any doubt that they would come and invite Tucker Carlson to dare interview Putin? Rest assured, there are those in power in the US who want to do the same as the EU,” columnist and lawyer Phil Holloway tweeted.

Carlson claimed that Western journalists had interviewed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky several times, but they could not “be bothered” to interview the Russian president.

Putin has sharply limited his contact with the international media since starting the war in Ukraine in February 2022.

Russian authorities have cracked down on the media, closing some independent Russian outlets, blocking others and ordering some foreign journalists to leave the country.

Two journalists working for American news organizations – Evan Gershkovich of The Wall Street Journal and Alsu Kurmasheva of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty – are in prison on charges they deny.

Western journalists were invited to Putin’s annual press conference in December – the first since the start of the war – but only two were given the chance to ask a question.

Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters that Carlson was chosen for the interview because “he has a point of view that is different” from other English-language media.

Peskov also rejected Carlson’s suggestion that no Western journalists had made requests to interview Putin.

He said the Kremlin has received many requests from major Western television channels and newspapers which, he claimed, “take a one-sided position.”

Carlson’s position, Peskov said, “is in no way pro-Russian, nor pro-Ukrainian, but rather pro-American.”

The interview with Putin, Carlson said in his video, will be distributed for free on his website and on X, formerly known as Twitter. Carlson, who was fired by Fox News in April, announced in December that he would start his own streaming service.

Russian state media reported extensively on Carlson’s visit on Wednesday.

Vladimir Solovyev, one of Russia’s most famous television hosts, said the interview would “break the blockade and narrative that exists” in the Western media, which, he said, focuses on “Putin’s unprovoked, brutal invasion of Ukraine.”

Solovyev, whose show is often critical of Western media, said Carlson is “feared” for not buying into that narrative.

Carlson worked at Fox News for more than a decade and hosted a show discussing conspiracy theories about Russia and the January 6 insurrection.

Fox provided no explanation for his dismissal.
