GPUs are finally getting a price cut, meaning you can upgrade your system for less
It looks like there’s good news for PC gamers as it looks like graphics card prices are finally coming down – could the days of overpriced GPUs be over?
Not so long ago we noticed that the Nvidia RTX 4070 dropped in price, prompting AMD to cut costs of its rival RX 7800 XT, the lowest we’ve seen this GPU. Now this price war seems to be affecting even more older graphics cards.
Whenever we get a new GPU launch, it’s normally expected that the price of older models will drop quite a bit, and that’s what we’re seeing now that Nvidia’s RTX 40 series just got an upgrade. Since the new RTX 4070 Ti Super is the newest package on the market (alongside the RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4080 Super), earlier models, including non-Super models, are expected to receive some sort of discount. However, it appears that the current price cuts are steeper than we normally see with new product launches.
Digital trends provides a good example illustrating this major price shift. The MSI Ventus RTX 4070 Ti currently costs $720 at the time of writing, which is about $80 less than what it launched for. You can now scroll through NewEgg and see that most RTX 4070 TI graphics cards are on offer ranging from $20 to $80 off – making some high-end GPUs now more affordable than ever.

Could this be the start of a mid-range GPU battle between Nvidia and AMD?
We think so, especially now more than ever, with the reduction of the RTX 4070 being quickly followed by AMD’s price cuts on the 7800 XT. Should AMD continue this trend to match Nvidia’s GPU price cuts, we could see a race to offer the biggest discount. Considering the appeal of AMD’s graphics cards over Nvidia is mainly their lower prices, if Nvidia continues to lower costs, users will be more likely to buy a GeForce GPU at a discount. Nvidia offers arguably better drivers and features and is very popular in the gaming community.
This could entice people who would normally default to AMD due to the lower price to consider Nvidia GPUs instead. Would that force AMD to continue undercutting prices to maintain their ‘cheaper alternative’ status? As much as I’d love to see even cheaper graphics cards, this price war has to end at some point – and any price reduction still has to make business sense – and as the underdog of the GPU market, AMD can only afford to cut prices so far. .
