Butler was not in 2021’s Dune, though he has a major role in Dune: Part Two, which hits theaters March 1.

The Oscar-winning actor plays Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the youngest nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard), ruler of House Harkonnen.

Feyd-Rautha is considered the planned successor of House Harkonnen and the younger brother of Glossu Rabban Harkonnen (Dave Bautista).

Timothee Chalamet returns from Dune as Paul Atreides, who finally meets Chani (Zendaya) – a Fremen woman he has inexplicably seen in vivid visions.

He teams up with Chani and her Fremen people to take revenge on those who destroyed his family.

Also returning from the first Dune are Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Paul’s mentor, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Paul’s mother, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar, leader of the Fremen people.

Other new additions besides Butler include Christopher Walken as Shaddam IV, the supreme ruler of the known universe, Lea Seydoux as Lady Margot Fendring, a close friend of Shaddam, and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, the ruler’s daughter.

The first film covered the first half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 epic novel, while Dune: Part Two covered the second half.

Butler can currently be seen in the Apple TV Plus miniseries Masters of the Air, where he plays Major Gale ‘Buck’ Cleven.

He will also play Danny Ryan in a film adaptation of Don Winslow’s 2022 novel City on Fire, which is in pre-production.

That novel is the first of a trilogy, following 2023’s City of Dreams and the author’s last novel, 2024’s City in Ruins.

Butler will also produce that film – his first as a producer – and it is believed he will reprise the role in what Sony likely hopes will be a film trilogy.
