Nancy Mace has a ‘great’ chance of getting Trump’s support even though she was blacklisted from his 2016 campaign: Ex-president could forget the past by turning the knife on Nikki Haley in South Carolina
Donald Trump is currently considering an endorsement for former foe Nancy Mace in her contentious primary race, multiple sources have confirmed to DailyMail.com.
Trump’s public outpouring of support would mark a remarkable turn in the South Carolina Republican’s relationship with the former president and frontrunner of the Republican Party in 2024.
In 2016, Mace was dismissed from his presidential campaign and banned from future campaign events, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.
And in 2021, she emerged as one of the loudest Republican voices pushing for a break with Trump after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Yet there are two sources that point to Trump’s transactional approach to expressions of support who speak regularly with the former president say there is a good chance he will support the embattled congressman.
Mace worked on his primary team in South Carolina in 2016 — and just months later she was blacklisted from Trump campaign events during the general election, according to three sources involved with Trump’s South Carolina campaign at the time .

“She wasn’t asked to stay because everyone thought she was just kind of there — causing more drama than was valuable to have around,” said a source who worked on the Trump campaign in South Carolina in 2016.
As another former senior Trump aide said of the primaries and 2016 campaign, “In the beginning, we didn’t always hire the best people, but who was willing to work for us.”
The congresswoman was furious that she was not asked back to help with the 2016 general election, the staffer said.
She was known to “drive around to campaign fundraisers Trump was doing in the region, and push her way to the photo line to tell (Trump) that if he didn’t hire her back, he would lose South Carolina in the general.” election for Hillary Clinton.”
“It got to the point where she literally had to be blacklisted from Trump campaign events across the country,” the Trump campaign staffer said.
“An email had to go out to the finance and political staff saying, ‘Nancy Mace should not be allowed to attend future events.’
“She was absolutely blacklisted from campaigns,” said a second source involved with Trump’s campaign in South Carolina that year.
The source confirmed that Trump’s campaign team had a “list of people who could not attend the events and should be kept out of the events because they are causing problems.”
Mace was banned from events in the area in August or September 2016, the sources said.
“She was despised by most of the campaign staff, who couldn’t stand her. They didn’t trust her. She undermined people. She lied,” said a source involved.
But the Trump world has apparently forgotten the grievances of the past.
A senior Trump ally had high praise for the South Carolina Republican but said the former president is focused on winning the Palmetto State before considering giving Mace a hand.
“The congresswoman is a huge asset to the team, a great messenger for President Trump’s voice,” the source told DailyMail.com.
“And the focus now is on President Trump winning the South Carolina primary. So I don’t expect any immediate announcements.’
Neither Mace nor Trump’s campaign could be reached for comment.
For Mace, she condemned Trump, but now she wants him re-elected to Congress. For Trump, it appears he cares little about Mace or the drama that follows her, as long as she is willing to bend the knee.
And supporting Mace could be another way for Trump to twist the knife in Nikki Haley’s back.
Mace appeared at a Team Trump press conference focused on “Nikki Haley’s Failures” in South Carolina last Thursday, where she called Haley “China’s favorite governor” and accused her of wanting to raise taxes while comparing her to Hillary Clinton.
Haley had helped Mace overcome her main challenge for 2022, a Trump-backed candidate.
“She’s a rock star,” Mace said of Haley at the time. “She’s become a great friend, a great mentor, she’s a great leader.”
The congresswoman shared how she texted Haley to get debate advice from her, revealing that it only took five minutes for Haley to get back to her despite being on the other side of the world.
“And I wish everyone could see our texts… and see how hard she works. She is a great example for me, for my daughter, for everyone in the room today. Nikki, I just wanted to thank you,” Mace said.
Mace, who once said she wanted to be beaten rioters against Jan. 6 so she could be the face of “anti-Trump,” made an about-face and endorsed the former president just weeks ago, calling on Republicans to unite behind him.
“His entire legacy was wiped away yesterday,” she said on January 7, 2021. “Trump’s record in his first term should tell every American how important it is that he returns to office,” she said. said on January 22, 2024.
In a sign of Trump’s transactional approach to endorsements, two sources who regularly speak to the former president say he is likely to endorse the embattled congressman.
And Trump similarly backed primary challenger Katie Arrington against Mace in the 2022 cycle.
At a rally in South Carolina that year, Trump called Mace “crazy” and a “terrible person.”
“Nancy Mace has been involved with President Trump and the MAGA movement since day one. She never doubted. She was one of the original people hired weeks after President Trump came off the escalator,” John Fredericks, radio host and Virginia chairman of the 2016 and 2020 Trump campaigns, told DailyMail.com.
“Mace was one of the key figures in Trump winning the nomination as the biggest underdog in history in 2016. She never doubted that.”
He then called her a “fiscal hawk” and “hopes” that Trump recognizes her “steadfast courage” and supports her.
In recent months, Mace’s office has fallen into chaos.
The congresswoman has lost nine staffers since voting to oust Kevin McCarthy from the speakership last October and is now operating with a skeleton crew in her Capitol Hill office.
Her former boss Dan Hanlon also launched a primary against her and several former Mace staffers are advising Hanlon on his campaign.
Another area Republican — Catherine Templeton — jumped into the heated race Monday.
“South Carolina needs a conservative they can trust. Someone who wants to make more money than fame and someone who won’t flop for fame,” she wrote on X.
