Was Miley Cyrus taking a swipe at ex-husband Liam Hemsworth during her Flowers performance at the Grammys? Fans go wild over star’s ad-lib lyrics

Miley Cyrus appeared to take a swipe at her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth while performing her hit Flowers at the 66th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The American pop star, 31, gave a stirring performance of the chart-topping breakup anthem at the ceremony after taking home the award for Best Pop Solo Performance.

As she reached the bridge of the song, Miley appeared to make several references to her divorce by improvising around the lyrics.

Miley sang, “I didn’t want to leave you,” adding the phrase “but I had to” before singing the phrase β€œI didn’t want to fight,” adding β€œbut we did.”

Finally, the singer bragged about her big win, adding the lyrics, “Started to cry but then I remembered…I just won my first Grammy!”

Social media sleuths have speculated that Miley’s additional lyrics were direct jabs at Liam, who is also believed to be the subject of the song.

‘The Liam shade between lyrics, with Miley saying she just won a Grammy. Liam you are nothing,” one fan wrote, while another added: β€œLiam Hemsworth is shaking in his boots, I just know it.”

β€œI would hate to be Liam Hemsworth right now,” another added.

Yet another wrote: ‘I would really have liked to see Liam Hemsworth’s reaction to all of this.’

Miley and Liam tied the knot in December 2018, but announced their divorce the following year in August 2019.

Their divorce was finalized in early 2020.

Flowers β€” which was released on her ex’s 33rd birthday β€” appears to include a reference to the former couple’s Malibu home burning during the California wildfires, as well as several infamously awkward red carpet moments between the pair.

In the opening verse, Miley sings that they “built a house and watched it burn,” likely referring to the $2.5 million home she lived in with Liam that burned down in the 2018 fires.

She also references the Australian star’s sudden divorce filing, singing, “I didn’t want to leave you / I didn’t want to lie / Started crying.”

At the time, it was believed Miley wanted to work on their 10-year on-again/off-again relationship and was shocked when Liam suddenly filed for divorce in 2019.
