Chilling audio reveals pilot’s final moments before fiery crash that left two others dead in Clearwater, Florida

The moment a pilot crashed his single-engine plane into a mobile home in Clearwater, Florida, was captured on chilling cockpit audio.

“I can’t see the other airport… I’m losing the engine… oh s***,” the pilot said Thursday after an apparent engine failure.

The crash killed the pilot and two people inside the mobile home, while several others were injured.

As many as nine people were inside at the time of the fatal accident.

Police insist the tragedy remains under investigation and no identities have been released, with the newly released audio from Fox13 and offers the clearest picture yet of how the episode unfolded.

The pilot is said to have radioed a ‘mayday’ warning to air traffic control shortly before the crash.

Terrifying footage showed the mobile home bursting into flames immediately after the emergency landing, with scattered debris thrown around the area surrounding the caravan park.

Other videos posted on social media show firefighters struggling to battle the blaze with hoses as flames engulf homes and surrounding trees.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft Bonanza V35, was also destroyed in the wreckage, killing the pilot immediately and killing two others inside.

At the same time the pilot was frantically alerting air traffic control, audio from another plane nearby also recorded chilling details of the moment the plane burst into a fireball.

The other pilot said the plane “crashed hard” as soon as the engines cut out, and continued, “They’re on fire.”

“He’s definitely interested in a house, a whole house has been demolished,” the pilot said. “I just saw him go down at an extremely high speed.”

‘It looks like there’s a fire in the building. It looks like he entered a building.”

Fire officials said they were put on alert to prepare for an emergency landing at nearby St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport when the pilot radioed during the mayday.

Although the pilot said he could not see the airport, the crash site and emergency runway were only three miles apart.

After the mobile home was hit by the plane, several other mobile homes also caught fire.

Fire Chief Scott Ehlers said during a news briefing Thursday evening that he could not confirm how many people were injured or died, and warned that the death toll could rise.

β€œI can confirm that there have been several fatalities, both from the aircraft and in the mobile home,” he added.

Eyewitnesses described a large explosion before smoke and flames engulfed the area.

β€œWe heard a racing engine,” Janet Barclay told the New York Times, β€œand then an explosion.”

Ted Atwood, who was in the mobile home that was struck shortly before the crash, told the outlet that he and three others had left just 10 minutes earlier, and that five others had left even closer to the incident.

He said it was “pure luck” that he survived, adding: “I’m going to buy a lottery ticket today and thank God we left just in time.”

Delivery driver Laketa Collins described seeing a ball of “bright, white light falling into the dark sky” from her car window nearby.

Clearwater resident Steven Ascari said he heard what sounded like an explosion as his entire house began to shake.

β€œAnd before you knew it, a giant column of smoke was seen,” he recalled to CNN.

Another resident, Noreen Adams, said on Facebook the next day that “smoke is still blowing into the bay where we are.”

The majority of the community is made up of elderly people with health problems, she added.

Despite the gruesome scenes, Clearwater Police Chief Eric Gandy concluded, “This tragedy could have been worse.”
