Elderly woman stabbed to death at Redbank Plains shopping centre while out with her granddaughter

A grandmother has been murdered in the car park of a Queensland shopping center while out with her granddaughter.

Police launched a murder investigation on Saturday following the death of a 70-year-old Town Square woman in Redbank Plains, southwest of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to the shops on Redbank Plains Road at around 6.10pm following reports that a woman had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, they found the woman with life-threatening injuries in the underground parking garage.

Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a six-year-old girl, known to the woman, was present and was examined at the scene. She was not physically injured.

It is understood the child was the woman’s granddaughter.

Police believe that a man, who appears to be African, left the scene before emergency services arrived.

A crime scene has been declared and the investigation continues.
